All About Me, MY Friends and My Feelings

CRAFTS

BACK PACK
Make the craft, have the children answer the questions then take home the bag.  Bring the bag back the next day with three things.  Each child will then tell the class about themselves and the things in their 'back pack'.
You can find this craft at OnceUponaFirstGradeAdventure.Blogspot.com

ALL ABOUT ME POSTER OR COLLAGE
Ask the parents to help their child make a poster or collage of family pictures and things they like.  Have the child bring them to class share with classmates.
Each child gets up and tells the class about their poster, pictures or collage.

GAMES
HELLO MY FRIEND!
Have one child sit in the middle of a circle on a chair. This child should cover his/her eyes. Then pick one child to go up to the child in the middle and say "Hello my friend, can you guess who I am?" The child in the middle gets three guesses. Then the child who spoke sits in the middle and the child that was in the middle chooses another speaker. The children can use their normal voices, but if they are familiar with the person in the chair, silly voices can be more difficult and amusing.

FINGERPRINT COMPARISON
Provide your children with stamp pads and magnifying glasses.  Have them make fingerprint on paper and then use magnifying glasses to examine their prints.  Encourage them to find similarities and differences between their own prints and their friends print.

BOOKS

Guess How Much I Love You
The Pigeon Has Feelings Too! (Mo Willems)
Rainbow Fish (Marcus Pfister)
Glad Monster, Sad Monster (Ed Emberley)
Franklins Bad Day (Paulette Bourgeois)
Do You Want to be My Friend (Eric Carle)
Biscut Find A Friend (Alyssa S. Capucilli)
How Kind (Mary Murphy)
Little Blue and Little Yellow (Leo Lionni)

For some children friendship skills come easily; while others need a little more practice and help.

A great way to introduce and learn about friendship is reading books about friendship together.

After reading each book, ask children questions like:

Why were the characters friends?

What made them good friends?

How did they become friends?

How did they settle arguments?
A good friend:
shares his/her toys.
listens to me.
plays with me.
doesn't get mad easily.
is fun to be with.
cares about me.

SONGS

I AM SPECIAL
(Tune: Frere' Jacques)
I am special, I am special (point to self)
If you look, you will see
Someone very special, someone very special,
It is me, it is me!! (Point to self)

Look who's special.
Look who's special.
Is it her, you, or me?
No, it's all of us, you see!
We're all so special as can be!

SPECIAL, SPECIAL
(Tune: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)
Special special special me
How I wonder what I'll be
In this big world I can be
Anything I want to be
Special special special me
How I wonder what I'll be

IF YOU'RE HAPPY AND YOU KNOW IT
If You're Happy and You Know it, Clap your Hands
If You're Happy and You Know it, Clap your Hands
If You're Happy and You Know it, then your face will surely show it
If You're Happy and You Know it, Clap your Hands
Variations:
Angry: Stomp your Feet
Sad: say boo hoo
Tired: go to sleep

FEELINGS
(tune: For He's A Jolly Good Fellow)
When I feel very [happy], When I feel very [happy]
When I feel very [happy]
My face will look like this!
Variations:
sad, angry, scared, sleepy

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A FRIEND
Tune:  “If You’re Happy And You Know It”
If you want to make a friend, shake a hand.
If you want to make a friend, shake a hand.

If you want a friend that’s new, then say, “How do you do?”

If you want to make a friend, shake a hand.

THE MORE WE GET TOGETHER
The more we get together, together, together
The more we get together the happier we'll be.
'Cuz your friends are my friends and my friends are your friends
The more we get together the happier we'll be.
With child's name, and child's name, and child's name, and child's name
The more we get together the happier we'll be.
With child's name, and child's name, and child's name, and child's name
The more we get together the happier we'll be.
