New Years Eve Shakers

Kids can have fun on New Years Eve too!
They inserted pipe cleaners, pompoms, ribbon, sequins, sparkles, tinsel, feathers and glitter into recycled water bottles.

 Then we shook them up!

Greet the New Year
tune: London Bridge
Gree the new year with a bang,
With a crash, with a clang!
Gree the new year with a twang!
Happy New Year!

Santa Crafts

Santa's Beard
Santa's Plate
I didn't have red plates, so we painted our own.
To make a cookie, I cut out a cookie shape and painted with a flour/paint mixture.
This mixture gives makes it look like a real cookie.
Be sure to rip one corner to make it look like you took a bite out of the cookie.
I used card stock, but the paper began to curl.
I'd recommend tag board.
You can use sprinkles or small sequins to add on top of the cookie.

Christmas Tree Counting Game

I laminated Christmas tree cutouts and put numbers on the stars.  Have each child put a button (pom-pom or whatever counters you have)  on the tree that corresponds with the number.

Little one cannot count yet, but she still enjoyed putting the buttons on the tree.

Magic Reindeer Food

What is “Magic Reindeer Food” you ask?
It’s oats mixed with glitter that the kids sprinkle on the lawn on Christmas Eve to be sure that the reindeer don’t miss the house!
(Be sure the kids don’t eat the reindeer food!
Have you heard of this fun idea?
I learned of it when my boys were in elementary school.
I am definitely doing this one with my day care kids.
I know they will LOVE it!
Here’s what you need:
Paper lunch bags
Precut white, black and red circles (I used a circle punch)
Precut brown antlers (I hand cut these)
…and anything else you might want to add!
I added a tag and poem to attach to the bag.

It has once been said,
that right before you go to bed,
that you should wrinkle magic reindeer food,
to quickly bring Santa and his brood.
For many years the legend has been told,
to boys and girls, both young and old,
sprinkle the food through out your yard,
the finding your house won't be so hard!
The reindeer can smell the food for 100 miles,
Just do not leave it in big piles!
After you do this you must go to sleep very fast,
so Santa and his reindeer will not pass!

I also found a cute site that has cute pre-made tags.
The kids were so excited to take home their 'magic reindeer food' and sprinkle it on the lawn so that Santa's reindeer can find their homes.
Make sure you leave a carrot treat too!

Cut out pictures of snowmen and glue them to black construction paper.
I used a snowflake punch to make the snowflakes.
Glue them to the paper.

We sang Frosty the Snowman and had a snowball fight
(with crumpled up copy paper as the snowballs).
