President's Day

It's President's Day so I thought this would be a good time to examine pennies (Abraham Lincoln is on the penny after all!).
We looked at the front and the back of a penny with a magnifying glass.
 Next we cleaned dirty pennies.
All you need is dirty pennies, 2 clear cups, 1/2 cup of vinegar and 2 teaspoons of salt, dish soap and water.
First we washed the pennies in soap and water.
Next we washed it in our 'magic water' (vinegar and salt).
The kids were amazed at the difference between the dirty pennies and the new, clean pennies.
I dipped one penny half way so the kids could see the difference on one penny.
We also did a penny rub.
For our craft we made George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Craft supplies: blue, black, yellow and cream color construction paper, star punch, coffee filter, cotton balls and glue sticks.
